
2007 Golden Scroll Award Winners Announced By Advanced Writers and Speakers Association (AWSA)
Advanced Writers and Speakers Association (AWSA) honored the 2007 finalists and winners for the Golden Scroll Awards for Publisher, Editor, and Fiction Editor of the Year at the Seventh Annual Golden Scrolls Award Banquet Sunday, July 8 th in Atlanta.
These awards honor editors and publishing houses best demonstrating outstanding ministry partnerships with their authors.
AWSA, an outreach of Right to the Heart Ministries, consists of over 250 top ICRS women authors who publish and speak nationally.
Harvest House Publishers won as Publisher of the Year. Author Mary Byers said, “Harvest has gone beyond the call of duty to help me minister to others.”
Honored finalists were Baker Publishing Group and Moody Publishers.
Vicki Crumpton of Revell, a division of Baker Publishing Group, received the award for the Editor of the Year. Author Eva Marie Everson said of Crumpton: “Vicki knows my heart. She helps me to find the right way to express it to my readers.”
Honored finalists were Philis Boultinghouse of Howard Publishing, a division of Simon and Schuster, and Kim Moore of Harvest House.
The award for Fiction Editor of the Year went to Erin Healy of WordWright Editorial Services. Bestselling novelist Tracie Peterson said of Healy: “Erin’s editing has become an extension of my writing. I think we make a great team.”
Honored finalists were Kristin Kornoelje of Revell, a division of Baker Publishing Group, and Sarah Long of Bethany House, a division of Baker Publishing Group.
AWSA founder Linda Evans Shepherd presented a special Lifetime Achievement Award to Cecil Murphey, author of over 104 books including 90 Minutes in Heaven written with Don Piper. Said Shepherd: “Despite the February fire that cost him his home and his son-in-law’s life, Cecil continues to reach out to the world through the love of Christ.” A former Golden Medallion Award winner, Murphey was recognized not only for his excellent writing but also for his selfless mentoring in the Christian writing community.
Founder of God Allows U-Turns Allison Bottke awarded the annual God Allows U-Turns - "Strength of Choice Award" to author Jennifer Kennedy Dean of The Praying Life Foundation. Said Bottke: “Jennifer displays courage by being a significant voice on prayer and faith while adjusting to the loss of her husband, Wayne, who died December 13 th, 2005.” Dean was presented a $500 cash award to be given to a faith-based nonprofit organization of her choice. The annual award goes to a person who, in the previous year, exemplifies a consistent determination to rise above difficult circumstances while maintaining a clear focus on the One who remains with us on any life journey.
On February 11 th, 2007, Bonnie Keen presented the AWSA Member of the Year award to Janice Chaffee shortly before Janice graduated to heaven. Bonnie said, “When I brought out the award. Janice opened her eyes and lit up. ‘The AWSA award! Look!’ She brought herself to a painful sitting position, had her hair brushed and posed for one of the last photos of her life.”
Bestselling author Lysa TerKerust was the keynote speaker at the banquet and author Sharon Hoffman emceed. Authors Karen O’Connor and Karen Porter presented the Golden Scroll awards. Recording artist Bonnie Keen performed the special music, including a parody dedicated to the editors and publishers and written by Martha Bolton.

Announces Winners for the 2006 Golden Scroll Awards
The Advanced Writers and Speakers Association (AWSA), an outreach of Right
to the Heart Ministries, consists of over 250 of the top ICRS women authors
who publish and speak nationally. The group announced the 2006 winners for the
Golden Scroll Awards for Publisher, Editor, and Fiction Editor of the Year at
their awards banquet, Sunday, July 9th, at the Denver Athletic Club with best-selling
author Ellie Kay as keynote speaker and Lindsey O'Connor as emcee. The Golden
Scroll Awards go to editors and publishing houses who best demonstrate an outstanding
ministry partnership with their authors.
This year's winner of the Golden Scroll Publisher of the Year Award is Baker
Revell. Author Kathi Macias says, "Baker Revell treated me as a valued
and appreciated member of their ministry team from the get-go. I truly believe
they want to honor God."
The winner for the Golden Scroll Editor of the Year Award is Liz Heaney of Liz Heaney Editorial Services. Author Janet Holm McHenry says, "When I think of Liz, I picture her in front of me, dragging me through a manuscript when I don't "get it"; pushing me when I don't feel like it; and beside me, as my friend, encouraging and helping me believe that I can do all things through Christ, who gives me strength."
The Golden Scroll Fiction Editor of the Year Award winner is Julee Schwarzburg of Multnomah. Award-winning novelist Gayle Roper says, "I've done 8 novels with Julee and have seen she has great respect for her writers. She treats us with grace and a gentle hand, asking always for our best, but listening carefully to us too."
AWSA founder, Linda Evans Shepherd and AWSA Steering Committee President, Eva Marie Everson, presented the Golden Scroll AWSA Member of the Year Award to author Jill Rigby for her work with the child victims of Hurricane Katrina with her letter writing and school supply campaign, Project to My Friend (www.ProjectToMyFriend.com.) Linda says, "Jill personally reached out to thousands of children of the storm and made a difference. She is an example of Christ's love in action."
The God Allows U-Turns Project announced this year's winner of the God Allows U-Turns - Strength of Choice Award as Heather Gemmen, the author of Startling Beauty: My Journey From Rape to Restoration.
Authors, Allison Bottke and Cindy Secret McDowell, presented the awards with Rhonda Rhea assisting. Recording artist Bonnie Keen performed the special music, including a parody by Martha Bolton, dedicated to the editors and publishers.
